Boudoir Photography

Photographer Robin Owen, shares her perspective (from the other side of the lens) on preparing for your Boudoir photo
session. Robin’s insight below:

Meet Your Photographer.
Depending on your style of boudoir, you
may be down to your panties, so you should have met your photographer well in advance of the shoot and feel very comfortable with her (or him). Robin recommends that you do your research on the web to compare boudoir photographers’ styles and then select a photographer whose style you love. Their web site should show several different models in different settings to give you a good feel of the photographer’s skill level. Then exchange emails with, or speak with your photographer by phone, to get an idea of their personality. You should discuss with your
photographer (before scheduling your shoot) exactly what you are looking for. Do you want outside shots in a lovely field or shots that look like they were taken in a bedroom setting? Is there a particular theme you want for your shoot?

Have a Snack.
On the day of, make sure to eat a light meal
before your photo session, looking beautiful isn’t as easy as it sounds. It can take a lot of energy to pose for romantic portraits for an hour or more. You want to be sure to have plenty of oomph! Robin provides a light snack and drinks with her larger boudoir packages, as clients will be at the studio for three hours or more.

Don’t Rush or Stress.
Nothing will ruin your mood like feeling stressed
and this will be apparent in your photos. Plan to get to your session a tad bit early-no rushing around or hurrying. Your mood will be captured by the camera. Relax, it’s time to feel romantic.

Make-Up and Hair. Typically, those going on camera wear more makeup than they normally would put on. Robin advises her girls to have professional makeup done before the shoot, including false eyelashes. It gives the photographs a dramatic glamorous look. Robin can recommend a salon that will provide makeup services or have a professional make-up artist come to the studio and work with you. It is always a good idea to have a fresh manicure and pedicure before your session. Also, avoid getting sunburn or very
dark tan lines before your shoot. Although, this can be fixed in Photoshop, it is tedious work for the photographer and will likely cost more.

What to Put On.
Come to your shoot wearing a button down shirt, so you won’t have to pull anything over your face to disturb your make-up or hair. Use clear deodorant. Wear very lose fitting clothing and no bra on your way to the studio to avoid indent lines on your body. And, avoid scheduling your shoot during the time of the month when you are going to feel bloated.

What to Take Off.
This completely depends on how risqué, you would like your photos. Boudoir photos can be seductive, romantic or just beautiful. You’re not going to have boudoir photos taken very often so splurge! Go out and buy some new lingerie and sexy shoes!
